PUNE: The former Prime Minister and senior BJP leader, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, under attack from the RSS chief, K. S. Sudarshan, on Thursday reacted rather philosophically to the controversy surrounding him, saying he would rather ``face death than be maligned''. Inaugurating the 50th golden jubilee celebrations of renowned Marathi writer G. D. Madgulkar's `Geet Ramayan' here, Mr. Vajpayee, in his first public appearance after the RSS chief's critical remarks, said ``all days pass, and there was no room for disappointment''. Mr. Sudarshan had attacked Mr. Vajpayee's prime ministership, his family and close aide Brajesh Mishra in an interview to a private television channel. He had also said Mr. Vajpayee and the BJP president, L. K. Advani, should step aside and make way for the younger generation in the saffron party. ``Even Lord Ram had undergone ordeals. It is the same for all. I would rather face death than be maligned,'' Mr. Vajpayee said. ``It is difficult to exist and not be maligned.'' UNI
