Clear day, cloudy later

NEW DELHI MARCH 14. Delhiites will wake up to a mainly clear sky on Tuesday. According to the weatherman, the sky is likely to become partly cloudy towards afternoon or evening. The maximum and minimum temperature is likely to be around 30 and 17 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature at Safdarjung on Monday was 30.4 degrees Celsius while minimum was 16.2 degrees Celsius. At Palam, the maximum was 30.7 degrees Celsius and minimum was 16.4 degrees Celsius.

The maximum humidity at Safdarjung and Palam was 88 per cent and 95 per cent respectively while minimum humidity was 44 per cent and 45 per cent respectively.

Woman killed

NEW DELHI MARCH 14. A 50-year-old woman was killed and over two dozen people were injured when the Blueline bus they were travelling in overturned at Peeragarhi Chowk in West Delhi early this morning.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 6-30 a.m. when the bus -- plying on route No. 568 between Mangolpuri and the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences -- was crossing Peeragarhi. The police said the bus driver lost control following which the vehicle overturned. A woman, Dharni Devi of Buddh Vihar, died on the spot.

Carjackers nabbed

NEW DELHI MARCH 14. Two persons, who allegedly drove away in a Toyota Qualis attached to a prominent call centre at Mehrauli in South Delhi this morning, were arrested at Aaya Nagar in an operation conducted by a joint team of the local police and the Police Control Room (PCR) staff.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. when Gagan Jha was returning after dropping the employees of a call-centre to their homes. He stopped near Andheria Mor to relieve himself when two persons overpowered him, thrashed him and drove away the Qualis. Showing presence of mind, Gagan approached a PCR van stationed nearby and narrated the whole incident to the policemen.

While the PCR staff started trailing the Qualis, they alerted the local police to erect barricades on the way to intercept the vehicle. The police managed to intercept the Qualis at Aaya Nagar after which the two accused were arrested. During interrogation, they identified themselves as Yogender, a resident of Najafgarh, and Anurag, a resident of Bahadurgarh in Haryana.

Suicide case

NEW DELHI MARCH 14. An unemployed youth allegedly hanged himself in his brother's rented accommodation at Lado Sarai area in South Delhi today.

According to the police, at about 6-30 this evening 25-year-old Manoj Singh Bhisht reached his Lado Sarai residence where he stayed with his wife. However, instead of entering his rented accommodation, he stepped into the next-door house that was occupied by his brother, Sukh Dev Singh Bhisht. He allegedly locked the door from inside and then hanged himself from the ceiling.

The police said that Manoj Singh, a driver by trade, had been unemployed for the past one month.

Three held

NEW DELHI MARCH 14. Three persons, including a woman, have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police for allegedly trying to procure visas for the United States on the basis of fake documents.

The Anti-Auto Theft Squad of the South-West Delhi police had received information about a couple from Hyderabad who were trying to procure visas to the US through an agent in the Capital.

Following a tip-off, a raid was conducted at the hideout of the suspect couple, later identified as Mohammad Afsar and Shehnaz Taj, from Munirka on Sunday. At their instance, the agent, Mukram Ali Taufer, was also arrested.
