BICHKUNDA (NIZAMABAD), MARCH 1. The Minister for Panchayat Raj, J.C. Diwakar Reddy, said that the Government had allocated an amount of Rs.150 crores for constructing rural roads and drains. Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating a godown constructed at a cost of Rs.43 lakhs at the market yard premises here on Tuesday, he asked the officials and the rural people not to depend much on borewells for supply of drinking water.
People cautioned
He advised them to explore a permanent solution to the drinking water problem instead of sinking borewells indiscriminately. To find a permanent solution to the water problem in Nalgonda district Rs.150 crores would be spent in the next year, he said. For rural link roads in the Jukkal constituency, Rs.43 lakhs was being spent this year, he said. The Minister was happy when he was told that the Bichkunda marketyard had earned a profit of Rs.73 lakhs last year.
`Wipe out losses'
Mr. Diwakar Reddy suggested to other market committees in the State to wipe out their losses by taking the example of this marketyard located in the backward and remote Jukkal Assembly constituency bordering Maharashtra. S. Gangaram, MLA, Jukkal, and Bajireddy Govardhan, MLA, Banswada, were present. The Minister later proceeded to Madnur after inaugurating the godown to participate in another programme.
