NEW DELHI, FEB. 28. Nine live rounds of .32 bore were found in an envelope that had been dropped into a letterbox in the departure hall of Terminal 1B at Indira Gandhi International Airport here this morning.

It was around 11-05 a.m. that a packer of the Postal Department, Rajbeer, found the live rounds contained in an envelope while he was collecting the mail from the letterbox near the post office counter meant for dropping of letters and mail by the passengers.

The postal department employee immediately reported the matter to the Airport Manager who subsequently informed the Palam police and the Central Industrial Security Force.

The envelope, which had been marked to "C.P. Arora, Engineers and Contactors, H.No. 175, MIG Flats, Prasad Nagar, New Delhi; Branch 57/11, Old Rajendra Nagar, New Delhi", was subsequently handed over to the Palam police along with the recovered ammunition for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the CISF personnel carried out a search of the entire area to rule out the presence of a weapon of similar bore. But as the search did not reveal anything, it is suspected that some passenger would have inadvertently brought these live rounds in the baggage and realised the faux pas just before the security check. Then in order to get rid of them he would have put them in an envelope and dropped them into the letterbox.
