CHENNAI, FEB. 21. The Periamet police on Sunday arrested a five-member gang and seized a country-made revolver with four live rounds of ammunition from it.
According to police, personnel of a patrol vehicle saw five persons moving under suspicious circumstances near Moore Market area late in the night. Their questioning led to the seizure of arms and ammunitions.
The arrested were identified as Rajesh Dhyansingh of Uttar Pradesh, Charles, Jayachandran, Mohan and Bharath of Pulianthope.
They reportedly told the police that they had purchased the weapon and ammunition from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh with the help of Rajesh Dhyansingh.
They planned to attack a businessman and take away the money from him by using the weapon.
A case under Section 399 (Preparing to commit dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code, and a case under the Arms Act for illegally possession of a weapon with live ammunition were filed against the gang members. Further investigation is on.
