Welcome verdict

Sir, — The Supreme Court's ruling that industries cannot be closed without the State Governments' consent is heartening. Globalisation has taken a heavy toll on the workforce, especially in the industrial sector, resulting in massive retrenchment, closure of units and contract system.

The State Government can now intervene when an industry is closed down arbitrarily to the detriment of labour.
