School displays disaster management techniques

CHENNAI, FEB. 7. The Hindu Senior Secondary School, Indira Nagar organised a project display on "Disaster Management" on Saturday, highlighting the ways and means of preventing damage by natural and man-made disasters.

Students of classes VIII and IX displayed models, charts, assignments and Powerpoint presentations on man-made disasters, terrorism, insurgency and the role of citizens in maintaining Nature and ecology. Teachers and students from other schools took part in the programme.

The school principal, Padmini Sriraman, highlighted the various types of disasters and the measures to spread awareness on the causes, prevention, and after-effects of various calamities and quick course of action to be taken if confronted with one of them.

Sundip Ghosh, Programme Director, Indo-Russian Centre for Gas Hydrates, National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai, made a presentation on "Gas Hydrates - Challenges and Technology".
