Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, JAN. 25. The sky will be partly cloudy on Wednesday with a minimum temperature of about 23 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures at Nungambakkam on Tuesday were 31.8 degrees Celsius and 22.8 degrees Celsius respectively.

The recordings at Meenambakkam were 31.6 degrees Celsius and 22.4 degrees Celsius. Humidity at the two stations stood at 77 per cent and 78 per cent respectively.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in parts of Egmore and Foreshore Estate between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday for maintenance work.

Certificate

M. Ajit Kumar, Commissioner of Customs, Chennai, will receive a certificate of appreciation from the President on Republic Day.

Mr. Kumar is an officer of the 1984 batch of the Indian Customs and Central Excise Service.

Remain closed

The Periyar Science and Technology Centre and B.M. Birla Planetarium will remain closed today, on January 26 on account of Republic Day.

Exhibition

A science and arts exhibition on `Panchaboothas'- the elements of nature, was held on Saturday. Students from lower kindergarten to standard IX participated in the event by displaying working models and charts about the five elements of nature. Not only the science department but also the English, Maths and Social Studies departments participated.

Nearly 500 projects were on display.

Oratory contest

Shriram Group Companies will celebrate the birth anniversary of Tamil poet Bharathiar on January 30 by holding oratorical competitions for students from standard IV to college around the state.
