Blasts rock Riyadh

RIYADH, DEC. 29. A suicide attacker tried to drive his bomb-laden car into the Interior Ministry complex here, while others set off a bomb and exchanged fire with the police late today. The first explosion at about 8.35 p.m. local time shattered windows and sent smoke and flames rising into the night sky near the Ministry. Police officials said a suicide car bomber had tried to storm the Ministry, but failed and instead exploded his car just outside.

The second explosion, about 30 minutes later, took place at a centre for recruiting emergency troops, located 9 km from the scene of the first explosion.
