NEW DELHI, DEC. 29. The Chairman of the 12th Finance Commission, C. Rangarajan, has been appointed Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. Dr. Rangarajan, a former Governor of Reserve Bank and Andhra Pradesh, will have the rank of Cabinet Minister. The Council will have four members of the rank of Minister of State, an official release said. They are: Suresh Tendulkar (former director of the Delhi School of Economics), G.K. Chadda (Vice-Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University), Govinda Rao (Director-General, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy) and Saumitra Chaudhuri (Economic Adviser of the credit rating agency, ICRA). The Council, besides advising the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, on policy matters will prepare monthly reports on developments at home and abroad. It will also monitor the economic trends on a regular basis and bring them to the Prime Minister's notice.
