JAMMU, DEC. 18. An Army officer allegedly involved in the rape of two women in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on November 6 would be tried by a General Court Martial (GCM). This was stated by a Northern Command spokesman here today. "The court martial of Major Rahman Hussainof the 30 Rashtriya Rifleswill commence in Uri town of Baramulla district on December 20 and Brigadier Syed Ata Hasnain will be the Presiding Officer. The proceedings will be totally transparent." The incident had triggered street protests in the Kashmir Valley. The Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and a First Information Report was filed. An internal inquiry was also announced by the Army.
