Kanchi Acharya seeks bail in assault case
By Our Legal Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
DEC.16.
The Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, today moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in the "Radhakrishnan assault case" in which he was formally arrested on November 23 while in judicial custody in connection with the "Sankararaman murder case."
The case relates to the alleged assault on the former associate of the Kanchi Mutt, Radhakrishnan, his wife and his servant in Chennai in September 2002.
The present petition challenges the order of the Principal Sessions Judge on December 10 rejecting his bail plea.
A Bench headed by the Chief Justice, R.C. Lahoti, will take up this petition tomorrow along with the one filed by the Acharya earlier seeking bail in the "Sankararaman murder case."
