Reliance plea: hearing on January 3
By Our Legal Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
DEC. 16.
The Supreme Court today posted for hearing on January 3, 2005 an application from the Reliance Infocomm Ltd. seeking modification of an earlier order directing it to pay within four weeks Rs. 84.70 crores to the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. for re-routing international calls as local ones.
On a petition from BSNL, a Bench, consisting of Justice N. Santosh Hegde and Justice S.B. Sinha, on December 3 asked Reliance to pay the demand of Rs. 182.70 crores made by the BSNL as on October 29. Since Reliance had deposited Rs. 98 crores, it was asked to pay the balance of Rs. 84.70 crores by cheque or demand draft. In its application filed today, the Reliance expressed its inability to pay the balance of Rs. 84.70 crores but said it was willing to execute a bank guarantee for the amount.
