Mumbai boy rescued

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, DEC. 15. A six-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from Mumbai on December 9, was rescued from Noida by a joint team of the Mumbai police and the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch of the Delhi police today. Seven people have been arrested in this connection.

The victim, Masoom, who had been living with his uncle, Javed, went missing from Saka Naki in Mumbai while he was returning from school. Two days later, Javed received a call in which the kidnappers demanded Rs. 50 lakhs for Masoom's release. The call was traced to a mobile phone in Delhi, following which the Mumbai police contacted the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch here to help them track down the culprits.

The Mumbai police learned that Guddu Alam and Rauf, who knew Javed, had gone missing after the incident. Suspecting that they were involved in the kidnapping, they alerted their Delhi counterparts. Meanwhile, the Inter-State Cell sleuths found that some of the kidnappers would come to Nizamuddin railway station to board a Mumbai-bound train today. Subsequently, they laid a trap and arrested three of them. The accused were identified as Rauf, Lal Babu and Guddu Alam.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to having kidnapped Masoom. Guddu disclosed that he knew Masoom's uncle, Javed, who ran a factory for manufacturing kitchen trolley in Mumbai. Lured by the prospect of extracting huge amount of money from him, he along with his accomplices, Kamruddin and Rauf, planned to kidnap Masoom. On December 9, Guddu picked up the victim while he was on his way home from school.

The accused disclosed that Masoom had been kept in the custody of Kamruddin, who has a criminal background, and Irfan at Noida Sector-53, upon which the police raided the place, arrested the duo and rescued the victim. At their instance, the police arrested two other accused, Suresh and Ruz Mohammad from Noida. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Tejinder Luthra, said all the accused -- who are from Motihari in Bihar, which is Masoom's native place -- would be produced in a Delhi court and wouldb taken to Mumbai later for further investigations.
