IITian gets remand, reaching Delhi today

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, DEC. 15. The student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, who was arrested from the Institute campus yesterday for allegedly putting on sale the video compact disc containing sexual escapades of two students of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, on the Baazee.com website, would be brought to the Capital for interrogation on Thursday.

Ravi Raj, an eighth semester IIT student of geophysics, was produced in a Kharagpur court today for a transit remand so that he could be brought to Delhi. He was arrested after the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch found that he had sold at least eight compact discs under pseudonym Alice Electronics through Baazee.com and received payments for the same in the form of a draft through another e-business website, PaisaPay.com.

The police said they would interrogate Ravi to find out how he obtained the video clip, which was first filmed on a camera phone by one of the students involved in the incident and forwarded to his friends through the multimedia messaging service (MMS). The police suspect that Ravi himself converted the MMS into compact disc format using a data cable and posted an advertisement on Baazee.com for its sale at Rs. 125 per piece.

While they have enough evidence to prove Ravi's guilt in court, the police feel that it would be practically impossible for them to book everyone who circulated the sleazy MMS or its compact disc format.
