Six get life term for murder

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, DEC. 11 .A Delhi court has sentenced six persons to life imprisonment, holding them guilty of killing a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Inspector following a quarrel over a piece of land in the Najafgarh area in South Delhi in 2000.

Awarding the life term to Kishan, Parth, Jagpal, Baljeet, Manjeet and Rajpal for clubbing to death Inspector Narain Singh before his wife Omvati, son Satpal and brothers, Jaipal, and Madanpal, the Additional Sessions Judge, S.N. Dhingra, said: "The prosecution has been able to prove the case beyond all reasonable doubts.''

The convicts were held guilty and sentenced under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 147 (rioting) of the Indian Penal Code. However, all the sentences would run concurrently, the Judge said.

Of other four accused in the case, two, Anil and Sunil were sentenced to one year's imprisonment, and the two other were acquitted due to lack evidence. All the accused are members of a single family.

According to the FIR registered by the Najafgarh police, the quarrel between the deceased and the convicts' family had been going for long time. On the date of the incident, the deceased was caught by the convicts and fatally beaten with clubs in front of his family members. However, the family somehow freed Narain Singh from the clutches of the convicts' and rushed him to the CRPF Hospital in Jharonda Kalan where he died the next day.
