Karnatak advances

ANNAMALAI NAGAR, DEC.8. Karnatak University posted a 7-2 victory over Alagappa University to enter the quarterfinals of the South Zone inter-university hockey tournament at Annamalai University ground here on Wednesday.

Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala University and Bharathidasan Univeristy also made the last-eight grade.

While M.G. University edged past Calicut University 2-1, Kerala University prevailed over Bharathiar University 5-4 via sudden death and Bharathidasan University got the better of Manonmaniam Sundaranar 6-5, also by sudden death.

The results: Karnatak 7 (Hadali 2, Gokak 2, Korwar 2, Chapparmani) bt Alagappa 2 (Premkumar, Arulraj); MGU 2 (Vipin, Ralin) bt Calicut 1 (Haridas); Kerala 5 (Bajakumar, Nithin Bose, Nithish, Arun Jacob 2) bt Bharathiar 4 (Jeyarajan, Gregory Gordan Harris 2, Manojkumar); Bharathidasan 6 (Rajagopal Honest Raj, Julian Vasanth; Dhanapal 2, Rocky), bt Manomaniam Sundaranar 5 (Frnaklin 3 Hemanth, Stephen Babu). — Our Correspondent
