CHANDIGARH, OCT. 27. The Haryana Governor, A.R. Kidwai, has honoured 28 police personnel for rendering meritorious service at an impressive investiture ceremony here attended by the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala.
The Police Medals for gallantry were awarded to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Samalkha, Badan Singh; Assistant Sub-Inspector, Hisar, Gumana Ram; Head Constable, Hisar, Yudhvir
Singh; and Constable, Panipat, Ashok Kumar. Mr. Badan Singh and Mr. Ashok Kumar had displayed exemplary courage and sincerity towards duty. Despite suffering injuries during an encounter near Pehowa, they had succeeded in nabbing criminals and recovered fire arms and ammunition from them.
In another incident in Hisar jail, ASI Gumana Ram and Head Constable Yudhvir Singh killed Upesh Kumar, who had murdered the Jail Warden, Vijay Gulati.
The Additional DGP, G.S. Malhi, Inspectors General, Resham Singh and Sharad Kumar, SP, Sukhdev Singh, and O.P. Kadiyan, retired IPS, received President's Police Medal for distinguished service. Inspectors General B.S. Sandhu and K. Selvaraj, Deputy Inspectors General, K.K. Mishra and P.K. Aggarwal, SP, Rajinder Singh, DSPs, Mahender Singh, Vijay Kumar Bharara, Anil Dhawan and Sube Singh, Inspectors Ranbir Singh and Shamsher Singh, Sub Inspectors, Param Singh, Suresh Pal Singh, Satbir Singh, Surjit Singh and Balbir Chand, ASI, Satwant Singh and Head Constable, Sat Pal, were the recipients of Police Medal for meritorious service.
DSP, Sham Singh (retd.), who was also awarded Police Medal, was not present during the ceremony.
