Leko keeps lead

BRISSAGO (SWITZERLAND), OCT. 11. Though the tenth game in the Dannemann World classical chess championship on Sunday between Vladimir Kramnik of Russia and Peter Leko of Hungary lasted considerably longer than the previous one, the result was the same: a draw. And Leko, the challenger, was the happier man.

Not just because he had black pieces and was under time pressure. More importantly, he's maintained his lead — which now stands at 5.5-4.5 — with just four rounds remaining. He needs two more points to dethrone Kramnik, who tried hard for a full point in game ten, making a novelty and later sacrificing a pawn even. But Leko defended correctly to draw after 35 moves.
