Big win for Madras

KANNUR, OCT. 11. Manonmaniam Sundaranar and Madras scored big wins on the second day of the South Zone inter-University football championship here on Monday.

MS trounced Hyderabad 7-0, while Madras outplayed VTU, Belgaum, 5-0.

Periyar also made it to the third round beating Sri Krishnadevaraya 4-2, while Kuvempu (Karnataka) defeated Nagarjuna 2-0.

Madras, the 2000 all-India champion, gave a warning to the stronger sides in the competition with today's thumping win. Yuvaraj was the hero of Madras as he netted three goals (34th, 44th and 80th), while Praveen Edward netted the other two (72nd and 74th) goals.

The scorers for MS were Shabu (10th and 15th), Robin (fifth), Sirin (22nd), Merbudev (25th), Jayan (35th) and Munipandi (41st).

Mysore, Kerala Agricultural and Bharathidasan got walkovers as their opponents failed to turn up.
