Woman, son found dead; murder says complaint

BANGALORE, OCT. 7. The bodies of a woman and her four-year-old son were found hanging from the ceiling of their house in Doddamalur village in <129>Channapatna taluk of Bangalore Rural district on Wednesday night.

The names of the dead were given as Madhu (26) and Likith Gowda (4). Madhu was married to Nagaraj of Doddamalur six years ago.

Madhu's father, Shivanna of Boothanahosur in Mandya district, has lodged a complaint with the Channapatna Rural Police saying that his daughter was being harassed by her husband and in-laws for more dowry.

Shivanna has in the complaint said that Madhu and her son were murdered by her husband's family.

However, Nagaraj's family claimed that Madhu had hanged Likith to death and then committed suicide.

The Channapatna Rural Police have registered a case.

The bodies were returned to the family after autopsy at the Government Hospital in Channapatna on Thursday, the police said.

Drowned

A 16-year-old boy was drowned in a well at Vishwa Vokkaliga Residential School on Mysore Road in the Kengeri Police Station limits on Wednesday.

The police said Rohit, a 10th standard student of the school, accidentally fell into the well while feeding around 5 p.m.

The body is yet to be removed from the well, the police said. Rohit was a native of Channarayapatna in Hassan district.

Dies

A railway contractor, Venkatakondaiah (35), was killed when a lorry hit his jeep near Puttenahalli in Yelahanka New Town Police Station limits in the early hours of Thursday.

Venkatakondaiah, a native of Ananthapur district in Andhra Pradesh, was a resident of Yelahanka, the police said.

The Hebbal Traffic Police seized the lorry and arrested the driver.

Assaulted

Two persons suffered serious injuries when they were attacked with swords by two others near Mother Dairy Circle in Yelahanka on Wednesday night, the police said.

The injured, Manjunath (25) and Shankar (26) of Chikkabommasandra, have been admitted to hospital.

The Yelahanka New Town Police arrested the two, Raju (19) and Kumar (21), who allegedly assaulted Manjunath and Shankar over a financial dispute.

Arrested

The City Crime Branch (CCB) officials on Wednesday raided two shops in Ulsoor Gate and Silver Jubilee Park police station limits and arrested two persons on the charge of selling pirated VCDs.

The police seized from the shops 1,500 pirated VCDs valued at Rs. 1.50 lakhs. The names of the arrested were given as Shanu (19) of Hanumanthanagar and Ashok Chabria (48) of Someshwaranagar.

Sentenced

The II Traffic Court judge, K.G. Shanthi, has sentenced the driver of a private bus, Gangadharaiah, to four months of imprisonment and fined him Rs. 1,500 for running over a man on Magadi Road.

On August 31, 2001, Basavaraj who was getting off the front door of the bus fell and the bus, being driven by Gangadharaiah, ran over him.

The Magadi Road Traffic Police had arrested Gangadharaiah and filed a chargesheet against him in the court.
