Weather

Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Humidity, which was 82 per cent in the morning, dropped to 79 per cent in the evening.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply between 8 am and 11 am on Friday in some areas under Mutyalampadu section due to pre-arranged shutdown for taking up maintenance of equipment. The affected areas are: Mutyalampadu, Satyanarayanapuram, Ramakrishnapuram, Kedareswarapeta, Ayodhyanagar, Ramalingeswarpet, Devinagar, Madhuranagar, Pappula Mill area, part of Gunadala, Govt. Press, drainage pumping station and Satyanarayanapuram railway quarters. Power supply will also be not available between 7 am and 2 pm in Brahmananda Reddy Nagar, part of GM Nagar, Lions Club Road, Visalandhra Road, Eluru Road (near Rama Corporation) and Visalandhra Press.

Commodity rates

The following are the prices (in rupees per kg) of the essential commodities in the local wholesale markets on Thursday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil - Rs. 53, palmolein oil - Rs. 43, sunflower oil - Rs. 53, tamarind (flower variety) - Rs. 45 to 48, tamarind (karipuli variety) - Rs. 55 to 60, chillies (AC) - Rs. 23 to 28, chillies (non-AC) - Rs. 14 to 18, rice (2716) - Rs. 12, rice superfine (samba masoori) - Rs. 13 to 14, rice (sona masoori) - Rs. 15 to 16, black gram - Rs. 22, red gram - Rs. 28 to 32.50.

Vidyut Adalat

The Souther Power Distribution Company Limited will conduct a Vidyut Adalat at the office of the Divisional Engineer opposite the Rytu Bazar near Swaraj Maidan on Saturday between 10 am and 11.30 am. Consumers with complaints pertaining to defective/adjustment bills, wrong meter readings, replacement of meters, voltage problems, damaged poles, interruption of supply, loose spans, missing of seals and other related ones may attend the Adalat and get their grievances redressed.

Workshop held

As part of the ongoing mental health week celebrations, a workshop on personality development was organized at the KCP Siddhartha Adarsh Public School on Thursday. Participating as chief guest, noted psychiatrist Indla Rama Subba reddy stressed the need for motivation, which was important to achieve success in life. P. Krishna Mohan explained the various behavioural patterns to the participating students.
