Romario announces international swansong

RIO DE JANEIRO, OCT. 1. Romario plans a stylish farewell from international football this year, a decade after he reigned as the sport's premier player.

The Fluminense striker announced on Thursday his international swansong at a game against a Mexican team in November in California, where he led Brazil to a record fourth World Cup title in 1994.

At 37, his confidence still runs high. He rates himself better than Diego Maradona and second only to Pele, who retired in 1977. — AP
