Kramnik stays ahead

BRISSAGO (SWITZERLAND), OCT. 1. For the third successive game, Vladimir Kramnik of Russia and Peter Leko of Hungary split the point.

But the fourth game in the Dannemann World classical chess championship turned out to be a long battle, unlike the last two games. The defending champion Kramnik leads the 14-game match 2.5-1.5.

Playing from the black side of a Ruy Lopez, the Hungarian, looking for his first victory, tried to put pressure on the king-side of a cautious Kramnik, but the Russian was more than equal to the task.

Kramnik then put the pressure back on Leko, as he went a pawn up on the 32nd move before the game was drawn in 43 moves in a rook ending.
