Swamy invites Natwar for meet on Sri Lanka

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, SEPT. 17. The Janata party president, Subramanian Swamy, has met the Foreign Minister, Natwar Singh, and invited him to address a conference on `Sri Lanka Linguistic Conflict', scheduled for October 30 in New Delhi. It is being sponsored by the Centre for National Renaissance of which Dr. Swamy is the Chairman.

Dr. Swamy also discussed the situation in the island nation with the National Security Adviser, J.N. Dixit, and the Intelligence Adviser, M.K. Narayanan. Dr. Swamy said the main components of India's Sri Lanka policy as elaborated by Mr. Dixit were: a clear commitment to maintain the territorial unity and political cohesion of Sri Lanka; a conviction that it could be attained only if the legitimate aspirations of the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka were met satisfactorily; India was opposed to violence by the LTTE to resolve the ethnic issue; and India was supportive of the dialogue between the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE facilitated by the Norwegians.
