NEW DELHI, SEPT. 16. The supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) began today in Rohini Sector 13 and Patparganj where Indraprastha Gas Limited, the sole supplier of Compressed Natural Gas and PNG in Delhi, is striving to connect over 2,000 houses in 49 societies during the current month. Though the PNG project had been launched in East Delhi in April this year, it was only today that the residents began reaping fruit of the environment-friendly programme which seeks to provide a safe, reliable and constant supply of domestic gas to Delhiites. To ensure a proficient service to its customers, IGL also simultaneously inaugurated two round-the-clock control rooms cum customer service centres in Rohini and Patparganj which will be in addition to the existing five control rooms in different parts of the Capital. The Managing Director of IGL, A.K. De, said there was great excitement at the fact that the project has been very well received by the residents in East Delhi. With Patparganj being one of the biggest clusters of housing societies in East Delhi, he said there was also a great scope for expansion of the project. In the last four months, he said, the company has provided connections to over 3,500 houses in Delhi and by the end of September, the number of domestic consumers will reach 18,750.
