NEW DELHI, AUG 20. The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party held a dharna on Parliament Street here today demanding immediate dissolution of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and dismissal of the Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit.
Led by the Delhi BJP president, Harsh Vardhan, the demonstrators alleged that the civic body under the Congress had "failed" to provide a clean and corruption-free administration. "The basic civic amenities have deteriorated," Dr. Vardhan alleged.
Referring to the exposure of bribery scam and arrest of two Congress Councillors by the CBI allegedly accepting bribe red-handed, Dr. Vardhan in a memorandum to the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, demanded immediate dissolution of the MCD House followed by fresh elections.
Addressing the demonstration, he said the Congress rule in the Capital has resulted in exposure of one scam after another. The recent report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India has exposed the power scam, but nothing has been done so far. "This is nothing but an open loot," he alleged.
Senior party leaders, Sahib Singh Verma, Vijay Goel, Lal Bihari Tiwari, Anita Arya, Mange Ram Garg, Jagdish Mukhi and Subhash Arya were among prominent ones to participate in the demonstration.
