Dharna organised

NEW DELHI AUG 7. The All India Clerical Cadre and group D employees Association of MES staged a dharna today at the residence of the Director-General (Personnel), Sudesh Dhiman, to press their demands. Accusing the IDSE Cadre official of following a dual policy, the general secretary of the association, T.D.Pandey, in a statement said none of the Association's grievances had been addressed during the last two years.

The Association's demands include cadre review of group D employees, shifting of administration cadre's management to ADGE or joint secretary of MOD, implementation of the recommendation of high power committee for identification of posts, cadre review of admin cadre and recovery of undue expenditure incurred by the government.

Jindal, Bhatia honoured

NEW DELHI AUG. 7. The All India Induction Furnaces Association felicitated and honoured the steel magnate Naveen Jindal and the recently appointed Governor of Kerala, R. L. Bhatia, at a function held in the Capital on Friday.

Emphasising the need for India to modernise and innovate to survive in the globalised world today, Mr. Bhatia, said: "It was a welcome development for the induction furnace industry that the steel magnate Naveen Jindal was a member of Parliament as he would be able to effectively voice its genuine concerns from the floor of parliament."

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Jindal said: "Probably no other country in the world is producing so much quantity by the induction furnace method. However, it is time that we focussed on producing high quality steel through modernising our plants.

Book fair begins

NEW DELHI AUG. 7. A three-day book fair organised by the Delhi Public School Society and Scholastic India at DPS Indirapuram began today. An opportunity for students and parents alike to discover the latest as well as rare collection of books by American, British and Indian publishers under one roof, all the books at the fair were offered at discount rates. A number of activities such as on-the-spot painting competition, creative writing, bookmark making, book cover designing, slogan writing and book readings were also held.

Maken meets NDMC chief

NEW DELHI AUG 7. Former Delhi Transport Minister and Member of Parliament, Ajay Maken, met the NDMC Chairperson, S.S.Khullar on Friday and expressed concern over the high number of seasonal vacancies in the civic body. While suggesting that the first preference for the jobs be given to the wards of NDMC employees, Mr. Maken further urged that the remaining vacancies be filled up with eligible residents from the NDMC area.

Loan mela inaugurated

NEW DELHI AUG. 7. The Delhi circle of State Bank of India inaugurated "Rinotsav'' a property-cum-loan fair at the Himachal Bhawan today. A unique fair in many respects, it offers personal loan products of State Bank of India under one roof.

There will also be on the spot approvals for various loans for home, car, two-wheelers, and consumer durables and for education purposes.

There are special concessional rates for the business booked during the fair at 7.25 per cent per annum for home loans for maturity up to 20 years.

There is also eight per cent for car loans for three years and nine per cent for above three years.

Loans for fixed rates for housing and cars are also available for half a per cent over the floating rates.
