Triple for Likitha

MYSORE, JULY 31. Local lass Likitha Devaraj pocketed the girls' U-14 and U-18 singles and U-18 doubles titles in the AITA Talent Series for juniors (U-14 & U-18 boys & girls) tournament conducted by MTC under the aegis of KSLTA at MTC courts here on Saturday.

Second-seeded Mesheer Vaswani (Kar) registered an upset 6-2, 6-2 win over the top seed Arun Ramu (TN) to clinch the boys' under-18 singles title.

Second-seeded Likitha dominated the proceedings in the girls' U-18 singles as she beat the top seed Harshini Reddy (Kar) 6-1 6-2. She bagged the girls' U-14 singles title beating state-mate Spoorthi Birdar 6-2, 6-2.

Later in the day, Likitha paired with Sharmada Balu won the girls' U-18 doubles title beating sisters Harshini and Yamini Reddy (Kar) 9-1.

The results:

Boys' under-18 (final): Mesheer Vaswani (Kar) bt Arun Ramu (TN) 6-2, 6-2. Semifinals: Arun bt Vibhav M. Iyengar (Kar) 6-2, 6-4; Mesheer bt Suraj Bikkannaver (Kar) 6-3, 6-1. Doubles (final): Suraj Bikkannaver/Varun Shetty (Kar) bt Arun Ramu/Varun Gunasheelan (TN) 10-9 (7-5).

Under-14 (final): T. Dinesh Kanthan (Sri Lanka) bt A.N. Muddappa (Kar) 6-4, 0-0 (concd.). Semifinals: A.N. Muddappa (Kar) bt Vibhav M. Iyengar (Kar) 7-6 (2), 6-1; Dinesh bt M. A. Navin (TN) 6-3, 0-6, 6-0. Doubles (final): M.A. Navin/U.M. Gugan Verma (TN) bt A.N. Muddappa/P.Nitesh (Kar) 6-0, 6-0.

Girls' under-18 (final): Likitha Devaraj (Kar) bt Harshini Reddy (Kar) 6-1, 6-2. Semifinals: Likitha (Kar) bt Sanjana Gopal (Kar) 6-3, 6-2; Harshini (Kar) bt Prarthana Pratap (Kar) 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). Doubles (final): Likitha/Sharmada Balu (Kar) bt Harshini Reddy/Yamini Reddy (Kar) 9-1.

Under-14 (final): Likitha (Kar) bt Spoorthi Birdar (Kar) 6-2, 6-2. Semifinals: Likitha (Kar) bt Sharmada Balu (Kar) 6-1, 7-6 (7-1); Spoorthi (Kar) bt Harshini (Kar) 6-4, 6-0.
