CHENNAI, JULY 9. Elegant artificial (but not `synthetic') flowers made from clay or cloth. Fine glass jars with exquisite designs made with molten coal. Polyester mosquito nets. A variety of foodstuffs and fruits, fashion clothing, furniture and footwear, besides industrial products. These are among highlights of displays at the three-day Thailand 2004 Exhibition, which opened at the Chennai Trade Centre here this morning. The third in the series of fairs organised in the city by the Department of Export Promotion, Ministry of Commerce; of the Royal Thai Government and the Thai Trade Centre, Mumbai, the exhibition features participation by 77 Thai companies representing 16 product sectors. Industrial products on display include cargo handling material, auto parts, pharmaceutical/herbal products and cosmetics, accessories for printer cartridge, pipe fittings and valves, toys, sports goods and stationery. Literature on opportunities for higher education in Thailand is available in stalls put up by universities. Inaugurating the exhibition, the Thai Vice-Minister for Commerce, Bahidda Nukara, said the exhibition would help enhance social and cultural relationship between Thailand and India, besides business ties. Nainar Nagendran, Tamil Nadu Minister for Industry, said the fact that the number of participants in this year's fair was more than double in the earlier edition testified to the potential for Indo-Thai economic cooperation. The exhibition is open to business visitors from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and to the public from 4.00 to 7.00 p.m.
