HYDERABAD, JUNE 30. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) State unit has asked the police to take action against the culprits allegedly responsible for stealing bovines from cattle sheds in the Neredmet area of the twin cities in the last few months. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the VHP State unit president Manikyachari, and the Bajrang Dal State unit president, T. Yaman Singh, alleged that the area police did not register a case despite the locals approaching them. The locals, who rear cows and buffaloes for their livelihood, said that two persons allegedly responsible for stealing the animals were in police custody. "We want the police to take strict action and protect our cattle sheds or else we will commit suicide in front of the Neredmet police station," said K. Ramlal Yadav, Heeralal Yadav, Yadagiri, Jairam and others. They said an ex-serviceman had noticed that the bovines were pierced with sharp weapons and when they became immobile, were dragged into a van and ferried out on June 25. The locals traced the van and informed the police who seized it. "While the vehicle prima facie establishes that it was being used to illegally transport cattle for slaughter, action is yet to be taken against the guilty," they said. About 70 bovines were stolen and transported in the last three months. The VHP chief threatened to launch an agitation if necessary steps were not taken soon.
Opposes quota
The VHP voiced its strong opposition to the proposal by the State Government to provide reservation to Muslims.
