Additional increment for junior lecturers

HYDERABAD: The State Government has issued orders sanctioning an additional increment to the junior lecturers who have completed 24 years of service.

The increment is to be given on the existing scale of pay of Rs.7,900 -15,475, according to a memo issued by G. Sudhir, Principal Secretary, Education department.

Meanwhile, D. Narsaiah, president, Andhra Pradesh Government Junior Lecturers' Association, in a statement issued here on Wednesday, thanked the Government for issuing the memo sanctioning the additional increment.

CPI(M)'s plea to Jana Reddy

HYDERABAD: The CPI (M) State Committee on Wednesday appealed to the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, to order release of the prisoners serving life term and already completed five years in jail in connection with the Independence Day.

B.V. Raghavulu, party secretary, in a letter addressed to Mr. Reddy asked the government to order the release keeping in view the plight of the prisoners' families. He said prisoners were hopeful that the new Government would act favourably on their plea.

He recalled that the previous governments had remitted the sentences of those prisoners who had completed five years of the life sentence.

MPs' meet on July 3

Hyderabad: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has convened a meeting of the Members of Parliament from the State and members of the Central Cabinet to discuss developmental issues on July 3 at Jubilee Hall.

Train service up to July-end

HYDERABAD: The Kacheguda-Sri Sathya Sai Prashanti Nilayam express will continue to run up to Yeswantpur till July-end. The last service from Kacheguda will be on July 30 and from Yeswantpur on July 31, according to a South Central Railway press release.

Programme on farm research

HYDERABAD: A three-week summer school on GIS-based decision support systems for sustainable agriculture will be organised at the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Rajendranagar, from July 1 to 21.

According to a press release, the aim of the school is to introduce the GIS concepts and related spatial technologies like remote-sensing and image-processing and to provide hands on experience of GIS software and hardware.

It is also intended to introduce relevant definitions and framework to formulate and resolve questions related to sustainability of agricultural production systems to scientists and faculty of the ICAR and the State agricultural universities. N.H. Rao is the summer school director, according to a press release.

FAPCCI office-bearer elevated

HYDERABAD: Sudhir Sanghi, senior vice-president, Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, has been elevated to the vice-president of the national organisation (FAPCCI).

A director of Sanghi Polysters Ltd, Mr. Sanghi was elected vice-president of the federation at the second meeting of the FAPCCI managing committee on June 29.

Mr. Sanghi has been instrumental in conceiving, promoting and launching all Sanghi group companies. He received the `Udyog Rattan Award' from the Institute of Economic Studies, Delhi, `Award of best exporter-2003' by Trade Trends, a business weekly, and `Excellent chief executive gold award' by the International Greenland Society.

New Director of Factories

HYDERABAD: S. Fiazuddin took over as Director of Factories after G. Hemachandra Babu retired on Wednesday after 34 years of service in different capacities in the department. He worked as inspector of factories, deputy chief inspector and joint chief inspector in City and Visakhapatnam.

N. Surender, joint chief inspector of factories, also laid down office ton Wednesday. He served the department for 28 years.

The services of both Mr. Babu and Mr. Surender were appreciated by officers and staff of the department, according to an official release.

`Yagam' concludes

Rajahmundry: The holy precincts of Bheemeswaraalayam, one of the `Panchaaraamam' pilgrim centres located in Samalkota in East Godavari district reverberated with the sound of hymns as the ten-day `Rudra yaga sahasra sahitha chandi yagam' concluded on Wednesday.

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, chief of Kanchi Kamakothi Peetham and Anil Ambani of the Reliance Group were among those who attended the `yagam', being performed for the good of humanity.

Devotees in large numbers turned up on all days. The `yagnam' was performed under the aegis of Reliance Group.

On the first day, Mukesh Ambani of the Reliance Group, attended the `yagam' along with his wife.

`197' made paid service

Hyderabad: The BSNL has announced that consequent on the release of the new telephone directory, `197' will become a paid service with a three-minute pulse rate from July 1.

Roda Mistry passes away

HYDERABAD: Roda Mistry (75), former Minister, died last night at a private hospital here. She had been ailing for over a month. She is survived by a son and a daughter. Her body will be kept at the new Parsi temple opposite Chermas, M.G. Road, Secunderabad, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on July 1, to enable people to pay their homage. She will be given a State funeral the same day.

Ms. Mistry, who was a Minister in the Cabinets of Kasu Brahmananda Reddi and M. Channa Reddy, was president emeritus of the Andhra Pradesh branch of the Indian Council of Social Welfare, which runs a college of social welfare named after her.

The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, condoling the death, praised Ms. Mistry's services to various sections of society.

D. Srinivas, president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, expressed shock and grief over the death of Roda Mistry, who, he said had worked for the uplift of women.

RTC staff gesture

CUDDAPAH: APSRTC officials and employees of Rayachoti depot contributed their one-day salary, amounting to Rs. 1,10,059, to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for free power supply to farmers, said the Depot Manager, Sunkanna, on Wednesday.

Mr. Sunkanna said that a cheque for the said amount would be sent to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Three held; rice seized

KURNOOL: The police seized a lorry with a load of 150 quintals of rice near Banaganapalli on Wednesday. Three persons, including the crew, were taken into custody. One person, identified as V. Ramudu, who was allegedly responsible for transporting the rice meant for the Food-for-work programme, was also held.

Mandal chief dead

KURNOOL: The Mandal Parishad president at Allagadda, Madduleti Reddy, died of heart attack on Wednesday. Several leaders condoled his death.

AISF executive meeting

CUDDAPAH: The district AITUC secretary, B. Ramaiah, on Tuesday called upon students to keep themselves abreast with rapid changes in the political scenario and the education sector.

Addressing an AISF executive meeting here, he alleged that the NDA Government `saffronised' education. Lamenting commercialisation of education, he said education had become out of bounds for the poorer sections.

The AISF district secretary, G. Chandra, urged party activists to attend the educational and scientific training classes at Rajiv Smrithi Vanam here from July 9 to 11. The Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, would inaugurate the classes.

SBI adopts school

MADANAPALLE: The State Bank of India (SBI) has adopted the 120-year-old GRTH School. At a function held on Wednesday, the school's top ranker in the SSC examination, B. Ravindra Naik, was given a cash award of Rs.1,000 by the bank's Chief Manager, P. Somasekhar. He also gave the `The State Bank Award for Excellence' certificate for 2003-2004. He said that the award would be given every year to toppers.

NABARD to open branch

CUDDAPAH: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will set up its branch in Cuddapah. It would be inaugurated by the Cuddapah MP, Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, on July 2, said the Assistant General Manager of the branch, W. Nagarajan, here on Wednesday.

The NABARD Chief General Manager, J.R. Parangal, the district Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, and the Superintendent of Police, V.C. Sajjanar, would participate, he added in a statement.

Professor for Singapore

TIRUPATI: D. Himachalam of the Department of Commerce, S.V. University, has been invited to participate in the 4th Asia Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting Conference to be held from July 4 to 6 at the Grand Hyatt, Singapore. An APIRA-2004 note said that the meet would be the largest conference in the South-East Asia region to be held once in three years. It would be preceded by a emerging scholars' colloquium on July 2 and 3.

Prof. Himachalam would be presenting a paper entitled, `Transparency in Accounting and Reporting System - A imperative for good governance'.

Police hold medical camp

ADILABAD: The Bellampalli Sub-Division police on Wednesday organised a free medical camp under the Police Mee Kosam programme at Rampur village in Dahegaon mandal.

The remote village is situated on the banks of Pranahita river 65 km from Kagaznagar town. Kagaznagar CI, Shashidhar Raju, and Kagaznagar Rural CI, Murtuza Khan, and Dahegaon SI, Chandrabhan, also participated in the camp where about 1,000 tribals were treated.

Collector visits textile park

KARIMNAGAR: The Collector, C. Parthasarathi, has assured to take steps for the all-round development of the ambitious Textile park for the complete rehabilitation of the powerloom weavers of Sircilla town.

The Collector visited the upcoming Textile park located in Baddenapalli village in the outskirts of Sircilla town on Wednesday. He assured to provide water facilities to the park within one week. He also informed the officials to take measures for the erection of a sub-station within two months.

Retired staff open library

KARIMNAGAR: The State Government retired employees association, Karimnagar unit, has opened a library for the preparation of competitive examinations at Pensioners bhavan in Indiranagar Colony in Karimnagar town.

The Sashi Memorial Pensioners Library is equipped with all competitive examinations books including the Group-I examination of APPSC.

The library would be opened for the students, unemployed and others from 10 am to 5 pm.
