NEW DELHI, JUNE 13. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, today declared that the Delhi Government will provide free iron tablets to all needy women in the Capital as anaemia and related disorders were the major bane of Indian women and iron supplements will help address the issue in a major way. Speaking during an inspection round of one of the "Stri Shakti" camps which were organised in all the nine districts of the Delhi today for providing health check-up to women from the economically weaker sections of the society, Ms Dikshit also instructed the Health Department officials concerned to make a comprehensive plan for distribution of iron tablets at all the government dispensaries, hospitals and health outlets. She also appealed to the women to remain conscious about their health and proactively seek medical help whenever required. During the inspection, the Chief Minister visited the camps at New Ashok Nagar in East Delhi. She was accompanied by her son and area Member of Parliament, Sandeep Dikshit. Likewise she was accompanied in Shastri Nagar in North Delhi by the area MLA, Shadi Ram, and Councillor, Shalu Malik, and in Azad Pur by the area MLA and Delhi Industries Minister, Mangat Ram Singhal. The Delhi Government said since its inception in February 2002, the "Stri Shakti" scheme has through its 130 camps benefited more than 1.5 lakh women from the economically weaker sections of the society. Besides a health check-up, these camps also provide counselling for skill development and self-employment and legal aid. They also provide for undertaking of comprehensive follow up by various NGOs.
