Kochi colleges fare well in degree examinations

KOCHI, JUNE 9. Kochi city colleges fared well in the B. A. and B. Sc. examinations of the Mahatma Gandhi University by bagging the majority of the top ranks in the examinations held in 2003, the results for which were declared today.

St. Theresa's College swept the top ranks in both the streams. Students of the college bagged 14 ranks in various disciplines. The success was a repeat of last year's performance when the students of the college bagged 13 top ranks. The college won four first ranks, four second ranks and six third ranks in the results declared today.

There was joy in the air as the Principal, Sister Tessa, along with the teaching faculty of the college congratulated the rank-holders for their outstanding performance. "We follow a student-oriented academic pattern. The effort is to make them excel in all areas of life," she said. Concerted efforts made by the teachers helped the college achieve success in this year's examinations too, she added.

In the B.Sc. Physics examination, Krishnapriya Lal of the college bagged the first rank. She scored 976 marks. Jaya George took the first rank in Mathematics. She scored 988 marks. The sister-duo of V. Gayalakshmi and V. Divyalakshmi brought two top ranks to St.Teresa's. Ms. Gayalakshmi bagged the first rank in B.A English examination. She scored 655 marks. Ms.Divyalakshmi bagged the second rank in B.Sc Botany examination. Anita Mathew of the college won the first rank in B.A. History examination.

The Ernakulam Maharajas College maintained its winning streak in results of both B. A. and B. Sc. examinations.

M. Haseena Beevi of the college won the first rank in B. A. Arabic examination. She scored 549 marks. In the B.A. Sanskrit (General) examination, Sariga Sasi bagged the first rank. She scored 601 marks. Nishad Azad won the first rank in B.A. Islamic History examination.

"We have an experienced teaching faculty that contributes immensely to the success achieved every year", said P.A. Krishnappan, Principal of Maharajas College. He said that the performance of each student is analysed regularly through seminars, test papers and other assignments. "Teachers also help the students in their overall personal development," he added.

The mood was jubilant at the Cochin College shortly after the results of the examinations were declared in the morning. Teena P. Varghese of the college bagged the first rank in B.Sc. Chemistry examination. She scored 989 marks. Riya Marietta won the first rank in B.Sc. Zoology examination. She scored 951 marks. The college holds the record of bagging the first rank in B.Sc. Chemistry examination for continuous five years between 1997 and 2002.

"The success is a result of the efforts made by both the teachers and students. The tutorial system implemented on the campus also helped a lot in improving the performance of students", said Narayanikutty, Principal of Cochin College.

The Government Sanskrit College, Thripunitura, bagged the top ranks in subjects related to B.A. Sanskrit course. P.S. Suvidha of the college bagged the first rank in B.A. Sanskrit Sahitya examination. T.S. Jayaraj of the college bagged the first rank in B.A. Sanskrit Nyaya examination. M.P. Praveena bagged the first rank in B.A. Sanskrit Vyakarana examination.
