NEW DELHI, JUNE 8. The five-year-old son of a goldsmith, who was kidnapped for a ransom of 200 gm of gold and Rs. 50,000 in cash allegedly by his two employees from Gandhi Nagar in East Delhi on June 1, has been rescued from Mumbai. The accused have been arrested with the help of the Mumbai police. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi), Nuzhat Hassan, the police received a distress call from Shankar Samui of Gandhi Nagar alleging that two of newly inducted employees had decamped with 70 gm gold. The police reached the spot and were told that the accused had also taken away Shankar's son, Suman, along with them. Shankar told the police that he had employed them on the basis of reference provided to him by a person known as Mahadev Mandal. The police registered a case and interrogated Mandal. Teams were also sent to railway stations and bus terminals in search of the accused, Suraj and Arjun. However they were untraceable, following which police teams were sent to their native place in West Bengal. Meanwhile, Shankar received some ransom calls from the kidnappers demanding 200 gm of gold and Rs. 50,000 in cash. The calls were traced to Mumbai. Hence, the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai's Crime Branch was tipped off and another team dispatched there for further action. With the help of the Mumbai police, the East Delhi police managed to zero in on the accused and arrested them from Bandra West. Suman was also rescued from their possession. During interrogation, they disclosed that they hatched the plan to kidnap Suman to get money for the marriage of Suraj's sister. After kidnapping Suman, the duo first went to Mathura by bus from where they went to Mumbai via Indore. The accused were very familiar with the city's topography, as they had worked there in the past.
