Al-Madeena anniversary celebrations from today

MANGALORE, FEB. 12. The Al-Madeena Islamic Complex, which runs over a dozen charitable institutions, including an orphanage for destitutes, is celebrating its 10th anniversary for three days from Friday. The organisation, which caters to socio-religious and educational needs of Muslim community in and around Dakshina Kannada, was founded by P.M. Abbas Ustad on March 17, 1994.

Haider Parthipady, Working Chairman of the celebration committee, told presspersons here on Wednesday that the organisation made a small beginning with 11 inmates at its orphanage. Located at Thadugoli Cross, it attracts people from Kerala as well.

The organisation met its expenditure from donations. It now had 110 children at the Al-Madeena orphanage, he said and added that even their expenditure on health and education was managed through similar avenue.

Mr. Ustad said there were plans to set up an Iflul Shariat College, high school, a college, and a technical institution as well. The organisation had conducted free mass marriages for the poor Muslims.

He said that C.M. Ibrahim, former Union Minister, would inaugurate the 10th anniversary celebrations on Friday. A meeting of religious leaders would be held on Saturday.

The former Chief Minister, M. Veerappa Moily, would inaugurate a communal harmony meet on Sunday.

The Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, was likely to attend the meeting, Mr. Ustad added.
