Perception of India changing: UN official
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
JAN. 28.
The Deputy Director General of the United Nations, Louise Frechettee, today said that the world's perception of India was changing and after China, it was becoming the next destination being closely watched by the investing community. Ms. Frechettee conveyed these views to the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, K. C. Pant, during a meeting here today where she stressed that India's success in the information technology sector had changed the traditional image of the country.
Mr. Pant, on his part, informed the Deputy Director General that India was also on the way to achieving the Millennium Development Goals as these were built into the Tenth Five-Year Plan and were being closely monitored. He said India was likely to achieve all the social targets set for the current Plan period and also indicated that most of the targets for the Tenth Plan were more ambitious than the Millennium Development Goals.
