Unrepentant Congress

Sir, — The effort to project Sonia Gandhi's children, Priyanka Vadra and Rahul Gandhi, as the new leaders of the Congress shows that the party has not learnt any lessons from its recent history. It is amazing that the party still sets such store by the unproved ability of the Nehru-Gandhi family to stem its decline.

K. Vijayakumar,
Bangalore

* * * Sir, — The statement that the entry of Ms. Vadra and Mr. Gandhi is good for the party and the country defies all logic. By stating that they will enthuse/galvanise the youth and the cadres the Congress has conceded that it does not have persons with leadership qualities who can rally the people.

Hilda Raja,
Chennai

* * * Sir, — The two should not be stampeded into any decision for short-term gains. Instead, they should be allowed to canvass actively to boost the Congress' fortunes in the coming elections.

D.B.N. Murthy,
Bangalore

* * * Sir, — The Bharatiya Janata Party is right in charging the Congress with `promoting dynasty culture'. Born into an elite family and having been accustomed to luxurious living, Ms. Vadra and Mr. Gandhi can in no way be said to represent the country's youth.

Mahesh Mahadarshee,
Hyderabad
