The Seerani Arangam police said Pramod Nanekar (55), an employee of The Times of India, came to Chennai along with his relatives to board a ship to visit the Andaman.
The ship that was to depart on December 26 was rescheduled for Saturday.
He went to the Marina beach along with his relatives on Friday evening. Soon after he stepped into the water, he was swept by a wave.
The body washed ashore after two hours. After post-mortem, it was sent by air to Mumbai, the police said.
Chain snatched from woman
Two motorcycle-borne men snatched a gold chain from a 51-year-old woman in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Avadi, on Friday.
The police said Krishnaveni, wife of a former government employee, was returning to her house from a temple when the culprits snatched the chain and sped away.
