Debris falls on labourers; two die

BANGALORE DEC. 6. Two women were killed and three injured when a portion of a building they were demolishing collapsed on Saturday.

According to police, labourers were demolishing a building at 15th Cross, 6th Phase, J.P. Nagar. Around 2 p.m., a portion of the building collapsed and debris fell on them.

The dead were identified as Revamma (20) and Bhimavva (22). The injured, who were admitted to a private hospital, are said to be out of danger. J.P. Nagar police have registered a case.

Boy drowned

A 12-year-old boy, Javid of K.G. Halli, was drowned in a tank in Hennur police station limits on Saturday. Police said Javid and three of his friends had gone for a swim at the tank at Hennur Bande around 1 p.m. When the four boys were drowning, some men, who were washing clothes on the banks, rescued three of them, police said. Hennur police have registered a case of unnatural death.

Shops, house burgled

Thieves broke into two shops in Jayanagar police station limits on Friday night and took away cash and mobile phones.

According to police, thieves broke open the rolling shutters of a mobile-phone shop and a cloth shop in 3rd Block and 4th Block of Jayanagar, respectively, and took away two mobile phones and cash. Jayanagar police have taken up cases of burglary.

The house of a businessman in the High Grounds police station limits was burgled on Thursday. According to the complaint, burglars entered the second floor of Manoj Jain's house and took away goods worth Rs. 35,000 and foreign currencies of more than 50 countries collected by Mr. Jain.

Idols recovered

Banaswadi police have arrested two persons on charges of theft and recovered four antique idols and two two-wheelers worth Rs. 7 lakh from them.

Police gave the names of those arrested as K. Suresh (28) of Ejipura and Venkataswamy (30) of Sanjeevininagar. Suresh was managing the office of a charitable trust run by a London-based Bangalorean, Suresh Choksy. The accused allegedly stole the antique idols from the trust's office on Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan premises on Race Course Road, police said.

The idols seized were those of Lord Ganesha, Nataraj, Devi, and a French queen, they added.

Fake papers given to court

Commercial Street police have arrested two persons who allegedly attempted to get the accused in a robbery case released on bail by producing fake documents before a court.

The names of those arrested were given as P. Jagadish (49) of Sriramapuram, and Ismail (60) of Ramanagaram in Bangalore Rural district. G.N. Chandrappa of Nelamangala, who is also an accused in the case, is absconding, police said.

Stolen vehicles found

Chamarajpet police have recovered two Maruti vans and a scooter and arrested Ayaz alias Bakash (20) of Goripalya, Ansar alias Malli (20), and Riyan (21) of Valmikinagar on charges of vehicle theft.

Police said the accused had allegedly stolen the vehicles from Chamarajpet and Byatarayanapura police station limits using fake keys.

Man accused of theft

A driver employed at a company has been accused of stealing Rs. 2.3 lakh in cash from its office at Vijayanagar. According to a complaint from Eagle Enterprises, the driver, Basha, allegedly stole the cash from the table of another employee, Siddaraju.

Computer parts stolen

Computer parts worth Rs. 1.25 lakh were stolen from the office of the State-owned Keonics Yuva Dot Com in KGT Complex in Banashankari police station limits in the early hours of Friday.

According to a complaint, burglars entered the computer centre by breaking the locks of the door. The stolen goods included two colour monitors and central processing units of computers.
