Crude misadventure

Sir, — We condemn the crude misadventure against The Hindu. Such "breach of privilege" was in the past used by the British against the Indian press. Now Indians are using it against the Indian press.

Sir, — Leaving aside the police's "clumsy handling" of the episode, the question is whether they were right or wrong in executing the Executive's orders, irrespective of their legality. It was on this point that Indira Gandhi imprisoned Jayaprakash Narayan and others before declaring Emergency.
