Letters to the Editor
Sir, The editorial, "Corruption on camera" ( Nov. 18 ) has correctly appreciated the action of the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in overruling his party in the Dilip Singh Judev case. The timing of the release of the VCD may be politically motivated, but it exposes the rampant corruption, especially during election times. There is no point "rubbishing the media".
C.P. Velayudhan Nair,
* * * Sir, The editorial rightly states that a "hidden camera might catch one or a few politicians taking bribe but the malaise is systemic." Perhaps, our system is not averse to corrupt practices altogether, but it does not tolerate the practitioner being exposed.
R.K. Divakara,
* * * Sir, The exposé proves the power of the media once again. The real face of Mr. Judev, the man who was the BJP's chief ministerial candidate for Chhattisgarh, has been revealed.
Md. Mudassir Alam,
* * * Sir, It is irrelevant whether the BJP or the Congress will emerge triumphant in the Chhattisgarh elections. Truth will lose.
Pranava Piyush,
* * * Sir, The episode highlights the deep-rooted corruption in our system. More disturbing is the fact that this case is also likely to meet the same fate of similar cases of corruption. The Judiciary should be completely overhauled for speedy trial of cases.
Awadhesh Kumar,
* * * Sir, The Congress behaved irresponsibly by demanding that an FIR be lodged against Mr. Judev and that he be arrested. It should have quoted at least one instance during its rule when such action was taken.
M.C. Joshi,
* * * Sir, The audio-visual quality of the VCD showing Mr. Judev allegedly receiving wads of currency is very poor. The sub-titles on the screen and the conversation of the characters in the video do not jell. One cannot draw any final conclusion.
Raghunarayan,
