Maoists allege U.S. plot

KATHMANDU NOV. 2. Attacking the United States for listing them as terrorists, the Maoists today alleged that the move was an excuse to gain foothold in Nepal. In reality it was "a ploy" to make the Himalayan Kingdom a ``military base'' to target India and China, they alleged. ``The U.S. is attempting to watch the activities of India and China by establishing a military base in Nepal," a Moist statement said.

``It is absurd to think that Americans who live across the seven seas face a threat from us. The U.S. wants an excuse to interfere in Nepal's internal affairs," said the statement issued in the wake of the U.S. announcement that Maoists pose a threat to U.S. national interest and security and Washington deciding to freeze the Maoists bank accounts in America. — PTI
