In the State capital, police dispersed groups of Youth Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers, as they raised slogans and came to blows. While the Youth Congress workers supported the strike, the NCP workers were seen requesting shopkeepers to ignore the bandh and keep their establishments open.
Reports from tribal areas of Bastar and Sarguja region and from Dhamtari, Korba and Rajnandgaon indicated that the strike was near total as shops and other establishments remained shut. Schools and colleges in Ambikapur were closed.
