Erode Sept. 22. A Plus-Two student, caught copying in his school examination, committed suicide, consuming poison, near here.

Vellingiri, student of the Government Higher Secondary School, Vellode, was allegedly rapped by his teachers for copying from pieces of paper in the quarterly examination on Saturday.

According to his schoolmates, Vellingiri left the examination hall after he was caught copying. When he reached home, his father too was said to have rebuked him.

A dejected Vellingiri immediately went to his grandmother's house and consumed poison and died on way to hospital.

The Vellode police have registered a case against the boy's father, Samiappan, for cremating the body without informing them.

As the news of the suicide spread, his schoolmates went on a protest demanding immediate action against four teachers who had pulled up Vellingiri.

They wore black badges, came out of the school campus and refused to disperse until the Education department officials assured them of taking action against the teachers.

Later, the police enquired the four teachers in connection with the suicide.
