Speaking on the occasion, the Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, said the publishing house was doing great service to readers by publishing books on Puranas, Vedas, and other sacred texts.
The publishing house was involved in the job of preserving the rich culture and tradition of India.
Not many books on Hindu texts were being published. If not for publishing houses such as Motilal Banarsidass, many readers would have been deprived of valuable literature, he said.
Noted authors including the centenarian, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, S.M.S. Chari, and B.K. Krishnamurthy of Hyderabad were honoured for their contribution to Indology. B.V. Raman, eminent astrologer, was posthumously honoured on the occasion. The proprietors of book houses including Vedanta Book House, Sapna Book House, Sankar's, Gita Book House, and Gopal Publications were also felicitated.
Swami Harshananda, president, Ramakrishna Math, and K.T. Pandurangi, Vice-Chancellor, Poornaprajna Vidyapeetha, were present.
