Bhati released from jail

By Our Special Correspondent

JAIPUR AUG. 11. The leader of the Social Justice Front (SJF), Devi Singh Bhati, and his supporters were released from the Central Jail here this afternoon. Arrested under Section 151 of the Cr.P.C. after their threat to "disrupt'' Sunday's rally addressed by the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, Mr.Bhati and 190 of his followers had an "unconditional'' release.

Marching in a procession from the jail gate to the Statue Circle where Mr.Bhati and Suresh Sharma, president of Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha, and others were picked up while on an indefinite fast in an early morning swoop on Saturday, the group pledged to continue with the agitation for reservation.

They were offered fruit juice by Lokendra Singh Kalvi and Satyanarain Singh, the other leaders of SJF, to mark the end of the fast which they had been continuing in custody as well.

The group was jubilant as they claimed success in "making their presence'' felt at the previous Prime Minister 's rally . "We could make Mr.Vajpayee respond to our demand and that is our biggest achievement. We could also make him give a commitment on reservations on economic basis,'' Mr.Bhati said talking to newspersons.
