Raw deal to Telangana pilgrims alleged

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Aug.11. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has reiterated his charge that the State administration has discriminated against people of Telangana by not making adequate arrangements for the just-concluded Godavari Pushkarams and demanded an "unconditional apology'' from the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on this count.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that about 2.5 crore pilgrims had attended the Pushkarams in the five Telangana districts as against 3.5 crore in East and West Godavari Districts. However, the Government had not spent proportionately out of the Rs. 172 crores expended on the Pushkarams and as a result pilgrims had to face lot of hardship due to lack of proper arrangements.

He said the Government had initially sanctioned Rs. 2.4 crores for the Telangana region and after the issue was raised by the TRS, an official was made to announce that it was enhanced to Rs. 21 crores. Keeping in proportion with the huge turnout in the region, the Government should have spent at least Rs. 60 to Rs. 70 crores.

He alleged that the Chief Minister was neglecting Telangana in all aspects and demanded that he should apologise unconditionally for the "inconvenience'' caused to the pilgrims due to the lack of proper amenities.
