Infosys expands Pune facility

By Our Staff Correspondent

MUMBAI AUG. 11. Having first set up base in Pune in 1981, India's topnotch IT firm, Infosys Technologies, shifted base to Bangalore. The Pune facility, however, contributing Rs. 380 crores in revenues to the company's total profits (financial year ended March 31, 2003) still continues to play an important role in the IT firm's roadmap. This is evident given that a planned investment of about Rs. 250 crores has been announced to expand the Pune facility over the next few years.

"Infosys has followed a strategy of setting up worldclass software development centers in places where there is rich local talent as well as the required infrastructure. Pune has provided us with both of these and we are happy to expand our operations,'' Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chief Operating Officer, Infosys, said.

With multi-million dollars serviced from this centre, the Infy development facility in Pune works on client accounts from Canada, East Coast of U.S., APAC and Europe in diverse segments like the financial and retail services. To cater to the growth plans, the company would ramp up its present head count of 2200 people to add 5000 software professionals. The IT firm has acquired 100 acres of land in Phase II of the Pune Infotech Park, Hinjewadi to house the expanded facility. The company has so far invested Rs.126 crore in the Pune facilities.
