Bangladesh team in Tumkur

By Our Staff Correspondent

TUMKUR AUG. 11. A team of environmental experts from Bangladesh arrived here on Monday. The delegation, led by Anwarullah Islam, interacted with B.V.Gundappa, President of Wildlife Aware Nature Club, and office-bearers of Nisarga. The Bangladeshi delegation appreciated Mr. Gundappa's work in documenting biodiversity around Nagavalli, 14 km. south of Tumkur, with the help of schoolchildren and college students.

The visiting delegation spoke to Sumitramma, President of Nagavalli Gram Panchayat, Ballagere Jayanna, progressive farmer, and T.V.N.Murthy and Guruprasad, nature experts. Dr. Islam said man had become selfish.

While he benefited from Nature, he was not making any contribution to protecting it.

In fact, man was destroying Nature, Dr. Islam said. Mr. Gundappa, who gave a demonstration of the method employed by him in documenting the species in and around Nagavalli Amanikere, said the tank was home to many of them, and efforts were on to preserve them.

He underlined the need for saving the tanks in Tumkur city and its surroundings.
